Who Can Participate in the Flight of the Bumblebee BOM?
To participate in our Flight of the Bumblebee Block of the Month program, you can join in one of two ways:
- Be an active Star Member of The Quilt Show throughout 2027, or
- Purchase a Flight of the Bumblebee BOM Kit.
Both active Star Members and kit purchasers will receive full access to all BOM patterns and project videos throughout the year.
If you’re purchasing a Star Membership specifically for the BOM program, you may wish to begin your membership in December to ensure access to all 12 monthly pattern releases for 2027. If you choose to join earlier, just plan to renew your membership so your access continues through the full program year.

What is a Block of the Month Program?
A Block of the Month (BOM) program is a guided quilting experience where a larger quilt is broken down into smaller, manageable sections—typically released one month at a time. Instead of tackling the entire project all at once, you’ll focus on completing a portion each month, building your skills and confidence as you go.
BOM programs are designed to be both inspiring and approachable, offering a steady pace, ongoing motivation, and the excitement of watching your quilt come together over time. It’s a creative journey that combines learning, accomplishment, and connection—making it just as rewarding as the finished quilt itself.
Do I need to be a Star Member of The Quilt Show to participate?
No—you do not need to be a Star Member of The Quilt Show to participate in the Block of the Month program if you purchase the quilt kit. The monthly pattern segments will be available to you as part of your kit purchase, so you can fully enjoy the program and complete the quilt alongside the community.
How Pattern Access Works
- Star Members will have access to the full Block of the Month pattern through The Quilt Show, whether or not they purchase the kit.
- Non–Star Members who purchase the kit will also receive access to the monthly pattern downloads needed to complete the quilt.
- Non–Star Members who do not purchase the kit will not have access to the pattern.
While purchasing the kit gives you everything you need to participate in the BOM program, it does not include a Star Membership. Star Membership is a separate offering that provides additional benefits like access to The Quilt Show episodes, classes, and special store discounts.
No matter which path you choose, you’re warmly welcome to join in and enjoy this creative journey—stitch by stitch.
What is a Preorder?
A preorder allows you to reserve your quilt kit in advance before it is available to ship. By placing a preorder, you’re securing your spot in the program and ensuring that your kit is produced and set aside specifically for you once it becomes available.
Why is this kit offered for preorder so early?
The Flight of the Bumblebee 2027 Block of the Month kit in the Mountain Meadows and Ocean Waves colorways features stunning Riley Blake Expressions Hand Dyes, which are artisan fabrics hand dyed in Indonesia. Because of the large quantity required—and the time-intensive, small-batch nature of hand dyeing—these fabrics must be produced well in advance. Additionally, the dyeing process is dependent on weather conditions and cannot take place during the rainy season, which further limits production timing.
Offering this kit as an early preorder allows the fabrics to be dyed, prepared, and delivered in time for the program start—while also guaranteeing that you won’t miss out on this special, limited-production quilt kit.
